VC Addressed First years' at Koitalel Samoei University College
The VC, Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson warmly welcomed OVER 1000 First years’ in Koitalel Samoei University College; a constituent college of the University of Nairobi –and the first public University in Nandi County.
The address marked a significant rite of passage in the institution to ease the transition of the fresh men and women to settle down in their new academic environment which some maybe be different and difficult.
Despite the fresh students having different expectations while joining the college, perceiving campus life primarily as an avenue for learning and personal growth, the VC encouraged them to embrace the dual purpose by viewing the campus as an avenue for meeting and creating long lasting networks, partnerships and friendships for not only for the period in the campus but a long lasting one; future spouses, potential employers, colleagues among others in different societal spheres.
The University College is dedicated to support the students when they face challenges which may include: Culture shock, emerging issues like AI, DRUGS and alcoholism, social economic and political challenges, peer pressure, heavy academic workload and expectations by lecturers. By partnering with collaborators and other partners, through nurturing and mentoring them to become innovative, ready to face real life challenges and build both hard and soft skills capacities.
The VC encouraged the new students to take advantage of great student support services; great lecturers and professors, technical staff, good student progression, extracurricular activities health facilities to appreciate, learn and enjoy diverse cultures and languages.
