The University Council:
a. employs staff;
b. approves the statutes of the University and cause them to be published in the Kenya Gazette;
c. approves the policies of the University;
d. approves the budget;
e. in the case of a public University, recommends for appointment of the Vice-Chancellors and Principals of constituent colleges through a competitive process; and
f. undertakes other functions set out under the Universities Act 2012 and the Charter.
